Two Fun and Festive Holiday Mocktail Recipes

Two Fun and Festive Holiday Mocktail Recipes

At this time of year, many people are sending well wishes for a successful, healthy, and happy year ahead. However, most of the time it’s over drinks. Drinking alcohol this time of year is not only socially acceptable but expected. And while drinking a glass of wine or a cocktail may feel good in the moment, it can take a toll on your health.

You don’t need to succumb to peer pressure and reach for that tempting holiday cocktail – especially since alcohol has several detrimental impacts on the mind and body – including your skin.

Here is a sampling of what even a small amount of alcohol can do:

  • Dehydrates the body, including the skin
  • Disrupts sleep
  • Irritates stomach lining
  • Disrupts gut microbiome
  • Increases inflammation
  • Exposes you to toxins
  • Dampens your mood and alters your behavior
  • Makes it harder to think clearly
  • Impairs your sense of judgment
  • Suppresses the immune system – making you more likely to get sick
  • Interferes with coordination so we’re more accident prone

Plus, long-term alcohol use comes with its own risks. Over time, drinking alcohol can lead to more challenging health conditions, such as heart problems, liver disease, pancreatitis, and even cancer.

Considering the holidays can already be a stressful time, and we’re exposed to more viruses in winter, why add to your emotional and physical health stressors with alcohol? When you reach for a mocktail instead of a cocktail, you can truly say, “cheers to your health!” Here are two festive holiday mocktails to help you skip the drink, honor your body, and still have plenty of fun.

Citrus Thyme Spritzer

Ingredients:

  • 1 glass sparkling water (Pellegrino is my favorite)
  • A few sprigs of thyme
  • 2 dashes of ground ginger (or a slice of fresh ginger root)
  • Juice of 1/2 lime, ¼ orange and ½ lemon
  • 2 slices of citrus

Instructions:

Mix all ingredients together in a festive glass, garnish with citrus slices and enjoy!

Apple Cinnamon Fizz

Ingredients:

  • 1 glass of sparkling apple juice
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 sprig of rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon pomegranate seeds
  • 1 slice of apple

Instructions:

Mix all ingredients together in a festive glass, garnish with a slice of apple and enjoy!
